British Columbia offers world-class sailing on protected coastal waters, the Gulf Islands, the Inside Passage, and Desolation Sound — one of the most celebrated cruising grounds in North America. The combination of mountain scenery, wildlife, protected anchorages, and reliable summer conditions makes BC sailing exceptional. Vancouver and Victoria both have vibrant, year-round sailing communities.

Boater Education & Licensing

• Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC): Required federally for motorized vessels in BC. Online test at BoaterTest.com or BOATERexam.com. Lifetime card once passed.
• Sailing Association of BC (SABC): sailingbc.ca — provincial governing body for racing and sailing education
• Canadian Coast Guard — Pacific Region: Pacific Region CCG — vessel traffic services, search and rescue, chart corrections
• VHF Channel 11: Vancouver Traffic (VTS) — report in when transiting Vancouver Harbour, Active Pass, and major shipping lanes. Active Pass requires calling Vancouver Traffic on Ch 11 before entering.
